Send a current color laser or PDF with each supplied file to be output. This will help eliminate the guesswork and/or costly mistakes.
⇒ Supply all fonts (printer & screen) used in files.
⇒ Prepare artwork in full composite color using selected custom line colors. (Do not create or show spot colors in 4 color process.) Clearly define all colors being used. (Spot vs. Builds)
⇒ Keep all line work and text out of the Photoshop. (create in drawing program such as illustrator)
⇒ Send all supporting files (such as Photoshop Layered Files) that are used in the document.
⇒ Make sure all positive type is 4 pt. and keylines are ½ pt. (.007”) minimum. All reverse type is 6 pt. bold and keylines (.010”) minimum.
⇒ Include .0625” - .125” bleeds beyond dieline depending on application.
⇒ Put dieline, bleeds and varnishes on a separate layer.
⇒ Include register marks/overall centers.
⇒ Supply high resolution scans. Minimum 2X line screen when printed – higher is better.
⇒ All screens and tints must contain a minimum of 1% tone in the highlight areas and 99% in the shadows.
⇒ All reverse copy and graphics out of 2 or more colors should have a minimum 1 pt. keyline around it.
⇒ Positive text must be viewed as its own color; including UPC. Do not create copy using more than one color.
⇒ All screen and tints should be considered a separate color (i.e. line black, screen black)
⇒ If possible, carry low-end vignettes through copy (i.e. dropping vignettes at a 2% - 3% dot will create a hard line unless a stochastic/hybrid dot is used.) Use only if approved by printer.
⇒ Limit background color (large coverage areas), especially lighter colors to PMS spot colors if possible.
Please bear in mind when designing art that the separator will be trapping jobs .007” .012”, .014” depending on press, design and printer.
