“A stitch in time saves nine: Apparel manufacturer gets help from barcode experts”
Background:
Swiftwick is a Tennessee-based specialty apparel maker, which is experiencing a period of rapid growth. In order to improve its brand image and shelf appeal, and to become more “green,” Swiftwick recently decided to convert their package to a smaller size, with a more functional design. With only weeks away from launching the new package, they still lacked a perfect solution for two specialty labels – one with product details (size, type, color) and one with a barcode.
Challenge:
The original product label design called for background colors that conflicted with the package and would be expensive and difficult for customers to read. Also, Swiftwick’s packaging vendor wanted to sell pre-printed labels with UPC numbers and sizes. This was problematic for several reasons. Swiftwick had to estimate how many of each size and SKU would sell well. If they ran out quickly, it would take weeks to reprint the labels, thus holding up production of a popular SKU. For products that didn’t sell as well, there was the chance that the label stock adhesive would dry out over time, with precious dollars being wasted. The package had not been designed with the standard label sizes in mind, and it was too late in the process to consider another redesign. Additionally, they had obtained a thermal printer but did not know if it was working, or if it would be better or cheaper to order preprinted labels. With hundreds of SKU’s, the task was daunting.
Solution:
BRS contacted Swiftwick with a solution to their printer and label problems. Despite the time pressure, BRS was able to deliver a complete solution that included parts for their Zebra printer, repair work, ribbons, labels, label design software and installation.
This one-stop solution from BRS enables them to print their own labels on-demand, in just the quantity needed for current customer orders. They have been able to contact BRS for fast support on calibrating their thermal printer, printing labels and fixing database and software issues.
BRS can offer you excellent, responsive service, too. Call and ask about our package discounts.
